Each Local Authority has a duty to provide information to the public relating to the provision of childcare and related services in their area.
In Stoke-on-Trent this service is provided by the Family Information Service (FIS).
The service provides information, advice, guidance and sign-posting for parents, carers and professionals of 0-19 year olds including:
Childcare
The FIS holds the database of registered childcare within the city, including Childminders, Creches, Day Nurseries, Pre-School Playgroups, Before and After School Clubs and Holiday Schemes.

Family Benefits
The FIS can give information relating to Tax Credits, Nursery Education Funding (Free Early Education), Sure Start Maternity Grant, Childcare Vouchers etc.
Work-Life Balance
The FIS holds statutory information relating to Work-Life Balance including Flexible Working, Maternity Rights, Parental Leave, Time off for Dependants etc.
Parenting Advice and Sign posting
The FIS can give information or signpost parents and carers to relevant services relating to any issue affecting them including Behavioural Issues, Bullying, Disabilities, Children’s Centres, Activities for children and much more…
